Project Details

Travel Channel is a US cable channel owned by Scripps Networks Interactive that focuses on traveling in and around the US. Travel Channel hit the airwaves in February of 1987 and has over 95 million subscribers according to Nielsen.

Travel Channel asked us to rebuild several video players around their site that presented clips and episodes of their shows. While a redesign of their site was in progress, we were requested to provide the following features on their new players.

To accomplish these features we built an AS3 Flash video player taking advantage of the recently acquired Omniture tracking system.  We then wrote JavaScript using the jQuery framework that would allow us to manipulate and dynamically load the various assets of the page.  In total, we tied the video player to four major systems to provide the service you see at travelchannel.com.

We integrated almost every possible interaction with Omniture analytics to track how users use the player.

Related videos was a new feature that helps keep users engaged.

Fully Integrated Advertising

In addition to pre-rolling ads before videos, we linked to other integrated ads. For example, if we presented a Disney video ad, we changed the sidebar's ad to Disney for better user recognition.

Social Tools

We provided a quick way for users to share videos by email and by posting to various social networks. We also provided ways for users to link and embed videos.
