  2. Utilities & Energy

An off-the-shelf contest, rebuilt as a season-long relationship.

Jackson EMC is one of Georgia's largest electric cooperatives — a not-for-profit, member-owned utility founded in 1938, serving the fast-growing northeast metro-Atlanta region. PowerUp Picks is the college-football pick'em platform Logicbomb Media designs and runs for the cooperative — now in its fifth season as a recurring, year-over-year partnership.

The assignment

A contest for the accounts that matter most.

The platform exists to deepen Jackson EMC's relationships with the accounts that matter most to it. Rather than a broad consumer contest, PowerUp Picks is an invitation-grade experience for the cooperative's business members, large commercial customers, and key stakeholders — a fun, low-friction touchpoint that keeps Jackson EMC top of mind throughout the season.

It replaced a generic third-party contest vendor. Jackson EMC had previously run a college football pick'em on an off-the-shelf platform, and LBM rebuilt it as a fully branded, custom-owned experience.

Engineering note

PowerUp Picks is built on Nuxt and Laravel as a fast, mobile-first web app — and it isn't a one-time build. LBM returns each fall to run and evolve it, season over season, for roughly five years running.

02
The platform

The whole contest lifecycle, one system.

PowerUp Picks runs the entire contest lifecycle. A custom admin interface lets Jackson EMC define which matchups count each week; members make their picks; and live leaderboards and live score updates flow in automatically from real-time sports-data APIs, so standings move as the games do.

03
The goodwill mechanic

Winning gives back.

A signature touch is the goodwill mechanic built into the contest — each bowl-week winner triggers a charitable donation made in their name, with the contribution split between LBM and Jackson EMC, turning friendly competition into community giving.

04
Five seasons in

A fixture, not a one-off.

Across five seasons, PowerUp Picks has engaged more than 500 high-value participants and become a dependable annual fixture in Jackson EMC's engagement calendar — a recurring relationship, not a one-off build, and a clear example of LBM creating bespoke software where the off-the-shelf option fell short.
